The central and state governments have in the last 60 odd years spent billions of rupees to spread education to illiterate adults. I have never met a person who has been benefited. Have you?
I have stumbled upon an idea: Why not ask school children to teach their illiterate parents and other elders in the family as an assignment for their summer vacation. I have developed two 50-page books to serve as text books, Ma  ko Padao and Paanch ko Padao, Paanch Sau Kamao. The school teachers can be asked to oversee the project. My field tests show  that when children teach their parents they themselves develop very confident personalities. To begin with, both  the books are in Hindi with sprinklings of English. But they impart secular and essential education necessary for modern living. Want to have a look? Visit my blog: http://brdawar.blogspot.com
